Review on πŸ” Enhanced SEO: Olson FR49501 Pin-End Scroll Saw Blade (36-Pack) by Chris Hazzard

Revainrating 4 out of 5

For the price I think this is a good buy.

I ordered these for an early 90's handyman that was gifted to me. There aren't many pinhead blades out there and they seem to offer the best choice for the price. I'd like to preface this by saying that I have no experience with scrolling and can't say for sure if I'm having any issues. Handling blades or an old saw. I have a lot of experience with other saws, but I have never worked with a spiral saw and never with a saw that is almost 30 years old. So take that into account and if you have experience or a newer saw you might know if my issues are with the blade or with the saw and experience. So far I've spent about 3 hours total. 80% of that comes from the blade with the highest TPI. My first test was with a medium TPI blade. I tried just making some waves with 1/4 plywood and it was pretty awful. The blade kept wanting to pull the piece up and off the table. I had to work hard to keep him. I checked to make sure the teeth went and they were right. I've tried different feed rates, different angles, basically everything I can think of. I bolted the saw to my heaviest cart to see if that would help. Nothing really happened and I went to the highest TPI hands. The blades with the highest TPI have worked great for me. I can't turn at the angles that YouTube demo videos show people cutting, but the blade doesn't want to take a chunk off the table and the angles are better than my bandsaw, so that's nice. The blades leave a very pleasant aftertaste. Personally, I've been sanding straight cuts on the router table in a pass or two, and it didn't take me more than a few strokes of 220 grit to get a very smooth finish. 5 inch needle head band saws on the market, you should try them. The price is pretty good, even if you end up only liking one of the three TPI settings. I'll keep working to see if I can get something better out of the lower TPI blades but for now the work I'm getting is just the highest TPI blades which made this purchase worthwhile. Delivery was fast. I ordered maybe a week before Christmas and just received them before Christmas with the easy shipping option.
