I know that in most cases a spark plug does not increase engine performance. What I have learned about ECU controlled small displacement multi-valve engines is that a colder temperature range with a spark plug with smaller electrodes allows the ECU to add more spark advance and a smaller electrode protrusion improves intake flow into the combustion chamber. Before and after dyno testing, Oscar Jackson from Jackson Racing and KraftWerks Superchargers proved this to be true on Honda Fits with the same IK22 Denso spark plug.
