This two stage sharpener is very simple and easy to use and actually works quite well. I use it to sharpen my pocket knives and loin knife, I've also sharpened a few kitchen knives and they were all sharp enough to cut through a piece of paper. I took it on a recent hike, put it in my tackle box and used it a few times. I cut some branches with my pocket knife, sharpened with this little dandy and later cut my steak with it. and then I cut some trout into fillets. Head and tail chopped off, right through the bones and all, and thanks to my little dandy it was easy. My only complaint is that it can be a bit of a problem getting the knife straight through every time, if you're not careful you'll end up at a slightly different angle when drawing, potentially diminishing the edge you want. If there was some sort of guide that allowed for thicker or thinner blades that would help. But hey, life isn't perfect so just deal with it, I haven't found this flaw to have a measurable impact on how my knives perform after sharpening. Result; small and perfect for camping, quick and easy to use, works like a champ.
