Review on Stay Dry in Rain and Snow with Non-Skid Dog Boots for Dry Feet by Janet Rivera

Revainrating 3 out of 5

First boot, good and bad

Why I like them: I live in Massachusetts and due to the worst February ever I have about 5 feet of snow in my yard now. And all the roads are either in the snow or in the asphalt on the road with a lot of salt and sand. Both situations are tough on a dog's bare feet. These are NOT the best boots, but for a cheap entry-level shoe, they're not bad. I bought these to see if my dog would even tolerate booties. He took to these booties very easily I think because they are more like socks and surprisingly easy to put on. I put boots on each of his front legs while he lay on the couch. He became interested in them, sniffed them, etc., but then ignored them. I left him alone for a while and then called him into the kitchen. He jumped off the couch and walked into the kitchen, almost ignoring the butts! So, it's time for a walk. I wanted to put on two other booties and couldn't find them! (I later discovered it was hanging from my pants! Velcro was stuck to it!). But I made it with just three because I believed three was better than none. I'm actually glad it happened because at the end of our walk, which was shorter than usual due to the wind chill, I noticed that he prefers barefoot paws! That bare foot hurt him! I had to massage my bare foot to keep it warm and stop him from licking it. So now I know those booties helped him. The other legs with booties were just about ok! I have ordered more of these AND a better, much more expensive pair with a good rating. (I looked at reviews on articles around the web to find the top rated pair.) And, importantly, those ankle boots stayed! They have a wide elastic band with velcro at the end that wraps around his ankle and secures the boot. I love this because it can't be overtightened unless you're REALLY tight on it and it allows the band to stretch as the leg bends. I think that's a good convenience feature. So why not increase your rating? 1) They are not waterproof. When we got home the boots were a little wet and covered with snow. 2) The pad on the bottom that claims to be non-slip is just a very thin piece of plastic. I wasn't impressed with his ability to prevent skidding, which was better than I expected, but not by much. 3). These boots won't last long. They wear out easily. four). They were too wet to wear again for another outing later in the day. But I bought more on another site for $4.50 so I had a few in the car for emergencies and extra DRY kits for a few trips. .I bought the small size here but ordered the smaller size XS from another site. As these are booties and not boots I don't think it will cause any problems if they are too big. My dog weighs 30 kilos. Cavachon. Hope this is helpful.
