This tray loading DVD drive works as advertised. I had no problems reading or writing DVDs. I connected this to my iMac running OS 10.14.1 (Mojave) via a USB-C port. Some positives: 1) connecting the drive via the USB-C port is reportedly faster than using USB 2 or 3 ports, 2) it's completely silent, 3) works right out of the box without power, 4 ) with the included USB-C USB-to-USB adapter works just as well when plugged into a USB-2 port, and 5) it reads and writes DVDs with ease. Cons: As this is a DVD drive, make sure to mount it on a flat surface. The tray extends approximately 5 inches when open and requires a table support at the front of the tray to keep the tray from flexing when you insert a DVD into the drive. I had no issues with this drive as it sits on my desktop and supports the open compartment door perfectly. If you're on the go and don't have a flat surface for your DVD drive (like you have your computer on your lap), inserting a DVD is going to be an issue. If this is your situation, I would recommend a slot-load DVD drive.
