Review on Gabriel 81491 Heavy Shock Absorber by Richard Koh

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Just right - shocks, struts and suspension

I have a 1972 Mustang and am constantly trying to improve ride and handling. This is my third set of front shock absorbers. I first tried the Kyb and found that they were too stiff and caused excessive body rattling. Then I tried the Monroe, nice and plush handling, and I liked them at first, but they didn't control rebound too well on freeway dips. My third try was with Gabriel and after two weeks I am still satisfied that they are soft on small bumps and rough roads but have good spring control at highway speeds. So the headline is spot on in my goldilocks looking for the right shock. I have used the Gabriel on my son's 2004 Mustang and they drive great. From now on Gabriel is my first choice. They're an improvement over the OEM, but not too stiff if you sacrifice comfort.
