Review on GABELS Bay Rum After Shave Lotion - 16oz (1 Pint) by Matthew Gomatham

Revainrating 4 out of 5

A bit heavy for a carnation but otherwise a great aftershave.

Update to my June 2019 review: This has become my favorite aftershave. I don't use anything other than Dickinson's witch hazel. I'm not even sure I'll be going back to Nivea if they fix the composition (as you can see from reviews from sites other than Revain). So far maybe 1/3 left on my first bottle. This is a value to be taken seriously. I still love the scent and my wife seems to love it so Gabels is the one for me. First Review: After Nivea moved from Germany to Mexico to make my previous favorite aftershave, resulting in negative changes in smell and feel, I was looking for a replacement. I don't downsize Mexico at all, but others have noticed the change as well, and it wasn't until I noticed the change that I remembered the production change (yes, I read the labels). and I'm not interested in spending an outrageous amount on aftershave (especially if I don't care), I looked for an inexpensive replacement. Gabels has turned up in my searches for Revain in the past, but I've always missed it. Reviews varied, which is not surprising given the subjective nature of aftershave, and I didn't have to switch. So far, ie considering the low price, I decided it was worth a try. The ingredients list is quite short, which can be a good thing. As expected, there is alcohol on this list and I wanted to see it as I love the slight sting in aftershave. It just feels good. Not to mention the alcohol, the fiery pain but more of a nice hard tingling sensation. This material has it, maybe too much at times, which is a good reminder that I need a new blade or that I was too aggressive that morning. Either way, Gabels definitely has a tingle. The smell is definitely similar to Bay Rum, albeit with a strong clove scent. Since I love cloves, I like the overall taste. It's really strong but dissolves quickly leaving what I find a pleasant scent. There isn't much moisturizer in it, but that doesn't usually bother me. I apply some of my wife's expensive Clinique lotion when needed. If you're borrowing an old tune, pebbles and a smear will help. I'm still looking for another inexpensive Bay Rum aftershave although this one is good enough. Well, if Speed Stick brought her lime deodorant back. highlighted.
