There are several basic requirements for the successful installation of this smart ceiling fan switch. * The junction box must have access to the neutral wire * The wall box must be deep enough to accommodate this smart switch * WiFi must be available at the installation site and you must know the password for it * A modern smartphone with internet access and an email address must be provided be available to configure this smart switch. Since my modern home and phone can handle these needs, I found the installation easy and satisfying. This fan controller is only one component of GE Cync smart home control devices. Other sync switches are available to control other devices. The Cync app was FREE to download from the Google Play Store. It uses amazing graphics and follows logical sequences to complete the configuration. The ceiling fan in my home's guest room seemed like the perfect candidate for this change. There was already separate wiring for the fan motor and lights, controlled by two wall switches. I replaced one of the wall switches with this unit as you can see in the attached photo. This fan control switch came with four wires and four nuts. One is the green ground wire. Two black power wires that control the fan and a white neutral wire. One of the black wires goes to the 120 volt power supply and the other to the fan motor wire. Other connections are obvious. Until the configuration of the smartphone is complete, this switch only turns the fan on and off, but without speed control. After downloading the Cync app and verifying my email address, I was able to link my phone and complete setup. Once setup was complete, I was able to turn the ceiling fan on and off and regulate its speed using a wall switch or smartphone. The four LEDs on the bottom of the switch indicate which of the four speeds has been selected. The illuminated button turns the fan motor on and off. The up and down buttons above and below the backlit button increase or decrease the fan speed, which I think would make sense for most users. I didn't test the Switch integration with Alexa because I don't allow listening devices in my house. However, my smartphone has full control over the fan over the internet and can monitor its status including whether it is on or off and the selected speed when the fan is on. This would allow me to scare my guests by remotely controlling the fan while they are in the room. While I don't plan on doing this, I can check if they left the fan on after they left and turn it off without entering the room. If other GE Cync devices are as easy to install and use as this fan switch/controller, they would be a logical and cost-effective choice for expanding smart home control options.
