I had an older Kohler brass valve that stopped working properly. (see photo) Kohler's support site states "Early Pressure Compensating Valve (no specific model number)" and has the following characteristics: - Solid brass faucet cap and valve body. - The faucet cover has 2 screws that attach it to the valve body. - Round slotted brass rod rotates clockwise to turn on. - It is sometimes referred to as "old 304 valve". I was able to fix it myself without the help of a plumber. I watched a video on YouT*** called "Do It Yourself - Repairing a Hot Water Only Shower Tap (Kohler Faucet)". A handy tip: slide a curved paper plate under the old valve you want to remove. The water will spill out when you remove it, but it will run down the plate and not the side of the tub. Use a bucket to collect drips for easy cleaning.
