UPDATED (Original title: Ultimate KVM Switch). While I was overall very happy with this switch, I'm no longer thrilled with it. The second port failed just a few months later. It can't find either the monitor or the keyboard/mouse, or both. The same laptop and cables on the board will work fine with other ports. I think the problem here might be that there's nothing really holding the cables securely in place. So if they move when you connect different things, the inner pins can get bent or loosen. I would imagine that a design where the actual HDMI connectors are recessed in the KVM and the size of the external connector matches the size of the cable's plastic profile would better support the connection and avoid these kinds of problems. It's not just this device that suffers - all HDMI and USB devices have the fundamental flaw of requiring the cable to be female and the plug male (so the cable can be swapped out instead of the electronic device itself), but I have to do it anyway taking off a few stars because it became a problem so quickly. ----------- ---- -----I bought this KVM switch to replace my old VGA switch. It has everything I could wish for: 1. Switching is easy. It comes with a combo keyboard with right ctrl key. My old one used the scroll lock button, and this new switch allowed me to reprogram it so I didn't have to get used to the new button combination. Compared to the previous Switch, switching between laptops and desktops with different features doesn't mess it up or make my monitor go haywire.3. The front USB hub is great - I connected a six-port USB hub to it, then my printer, some flash drives, and a hard drive. I've found that I have to reboot each independent machine once to make it the current machine, but after that each machine picks up all attached peripherals. Great - no more emails from my work account (via VPN) to my personal account so I can print something; You no longer need to disconnect from your VPN to copy a large file - just drop it on a flash drive on one device, switch to another, and it's available.4. It works successfully with a wireless mouse/keyboard. There are USB slots for connecting the keyboard and mouse separately, but I've found that placing a wireless USB receiver in the keyboard slot keeps everyone happy.5. Customer support is excellent. One of the cables broke off in the socket after I connected everything (incl. cable ties for organization etc.). I didn't want to disassemble everything and send it back. An email to tech support resulted in a free replacement within a week - and to take it a step further, they sent me a replacement cable. While I like this switch, I would like to make a caveat based on the feedback in other reviews: I only use Windows computers. I don't know how well this works with other devices.
