Review on Grote 60341 SuperNova License Light by Isaac Cahill

I have long been a Grote fan because they have always produced a good product for a reasonable price for USA made lighting. So when it came time to replace my trailer and truck license plate lights, Grote was my top choice for an LED retrofit. However, I'm not sure what happened to that license plate light. Inside the case are three LEDs that shine onto a multi-directional reflector that (kinda) resembles a seashell. The reflector has 2 main problems, 1: It creates an uneven light pattern on the license plate. 2: It diffuses the light everywhere so that it focuses very little on illuminating the panel, making it appear that the LEDs are not very bright. I even got pulled over by the police because the light illuminated the entire back of my truck in narrow bands of light. Basically I solved the problem by sanding the lens on the outside of the lamp. This diffused the light so that it now glows faintly on the plate and nowhere else. I bought 2 of these hoping the second one would be better but no luck. I gave this 3 stars for the quality construction but in terms of utility like the license plate light it should get 1 star.
