On the D90, where I work, I was able to afford it. Since I won't be using it myself, all I can do is express my initial reactions. At a pleasing 2.8, the focus is razor-sharp. Even though a stabilizer isn't strictly necessary at that focal length, I feel much better about the $1420 I spent on a lens with a 14200 stub. The price is noted as $22022, which is a large sum. If you had to choose between a sigma, a tokina, and a tamron 17-50 2.8, go with the tamron, but handle it with care.
