Overall not bad - just a few issues

I am using this KVM with power attached, but you can use it with USB power only. I believe that plugging in power will improve screen resolution and USB hub performance, but I haven't tested this theory in detail. I really like the built-in USB hub for 1 device. I share a printer between two computers. The front button switches seamlessly from one PC to another and beeps when switching. An acoustic signal is optional, but also not annoying. The screen resolution on both computers looks fine in most cases. This brings me to a couple of issues I've seen so far. 1) Sometimes the screen resolution is blurry after switching from one PC to another. Switching back and forth seems to help. This only happens once every 50 switches. 2) Sometimes the keyboard doesn't work after switching. Again, a one-time toggle will solve this. This happens once every 25 switches or so. I don't know if that's my keyboard or not - it's a Microsoft Natural 4000 so it should be pretty standard. 3) When switching, the PC you switched from seems to think you disabled the keyboard, mouse and monitor. This can cause problems when running a program that requires one of these devices to be connected at all times. 4) I sometimes forget when I print something on a shared printer. If you print while printing, you cannot switch computers because the printer is "disconnected" from the printing computer and you lose the rest of the document. So, a few tweaks and I think this switch will be top notch. . Until then, you can look around for cheaper ones, although there aren't many in this price range that come with a USB hub. Update (9/22/2011): I had some problems when either PC was connected to this switch. Unable to "connect" to mouse and keyboard. The screen says OK, but the mouse and keyboard are "dead" on only one PC (the other still works fine). I have to restart the one that isn't working to restore mouse and keyboard functionality. Even connecting directly to it didn't help. So it could just be the laptop I'm using, but I'll mention the issue anyway.

Pros
  • Unmatched reliability.
Cons
  • Small things
