I switched to using POE cameras and wireless access points. For our indoor units, this is simple enough, but the outdoor cameras will either have to all go back to the switch, increase the number of wires running inside-out, or rely on a different power source (if we're using a non-POE weatherproof switch). ). This allows us to route the cable outside along with the power supply (not necessarily the POE itself) and then branch off from there. It's out of control, which is a bit disappointing (if you don't know what that means, you probably won't miss it), but otherwise it's good. The cameras aren't very sensitive to latency, but adding an outdoor access point didn't show any obvious additional latency (it's just another switch on the LAN, so it shouldn't add more than a millisecond or two). Most people don't need it. but if you install POE cameras, this could be the case.
