As for the 10GbE hardware, I'd say this device is pretty quiet. Best of all, the rack version looks a lot better (or should we say professional?) than the cheap plastic desktop version.

$300 device User interface could be better. There are bugs in the VLAN UI and you may get blocked accidentally. It was written on the box without a fan, and the unit clearly had a fan, which is odd. I was fine with the fan, but it made crackling noises that were annoying in a quiet room.

I have gigabit service. I was using a D3.1 modem and my connection was up to 800Mbps. When I found a Qhora-301W with two multigig ports, I bought it immediately. I have been slowly upgrading my home network to be able to support 2.5G (at least) for a few years. I also upgraded my two main workstations with 10G cards (one with SFP+, the other with RJ45). This switch's simplicity and decently low cost drew me in after some weird MikroTik router configuration issues. The switch GUI was missing a lot of information, QOS wasn't loading and all ports were throttled randomly. I have many QNAP devices and let me just say their support is TERRIBLE! I applied for this 3 days ago and still haven't received an answer. There is NO call center in the US and chat is always unavailable.

The firmware doesn't seem quite ready as WMI crashes when using any of the SFP+ ports. The switch is no longer recognized by WMI and is displayed as "QSW error". The bandwidth still works, but the management functions don't. Until the firmware is fixed, this switch is functionally an overpriced unmanaged switch.

I have tried many "small size" 10Gbe switches, but am In the end, these non-rack Qnaps seem to be the most stable and efficient for performance and temperature. It's even better with the 8-port 2.5Gb/s port now available on all the latest motherboards. It's perfect for home use, and even multiple pieces can be stacked on top of each other - for home use, it delivers all the sustained range you expect - all without melting! Good job Knapp!

Tried the first one, GUI didn't work. I returned one and bought another despite a price increase of about 20% and the second one had a working GUI but never managed to exceed 170Mbps on 2500Mbps or 10Gbps ports. I even bought a second 10GB card for testing purposes. Second Chance was based almost entirely on a review by Jeff Gerling. I don't think I'll try the third one.
