Review on πŸ”§ Yonico 12343 Router Raiser: Enhance Precision with 2-Inch Adjustment by Michael Skerving

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Excellent value for money

This review is for the Yonico 12343 Set (1/2" handle and surface finisher with raised rounding nozzle). I am a Amateur not a professional carpenter. If I was making cabinet doors all the time I would have invested in a much more expensive set.Other than that as said the handle and chopstick bits were excellent.I have them on a set of solid maple cabinet doors I first set up the router bit by sliding it all the way into my Bosch 1617 router collet (mounted on a table) and then tightening it up. After a few test cuts I got the height right. Note: I have these for 3 /4" thick doors used instead of 1" thick. This requires some careful thought and attention to detail as to how high the router is above the Ti should be. Cuts, I changed the nozzle. I have this nozzle fully inserted into the collet and tightened. I checked alignment with the bar profiles I had already cut and surprisingly they were very tight. After a test cut I was very happy that I didn't have to adjust the height. It's quite impressive that the two blades and handle are so close in quality. The only minor issue I had was that I couldn't find the fine line of speed for a router between too slow and trying to throw firewood at you and too fast and wood burning. So I had a few minor burn marks that I had to sand down. The end of the posts seems to be the worst, but since I made my posts too big I can just cut off the burnt part. On the other hand, the raised plate part is much more difficult. I couldn't get it to stop burning wood after many router speed tweaks. I tried shooting small pieces, not all at once, and I still had the same problem. It may just be me and my technique, but I think if you have the money a prettier panel painting like Freud's Quadra might be a better route. It could also have been the hard maple choice I used. Softer woods like pine or poplar may get better results with this set.

Pros
  • Making cabinet door frames and center panels with muntin bars and frames
Cons
  • Available in white only
