Review on Champion Power Equipment 48034 Generator by Michael Boyle

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Seems to work as advertised

Got this for use with my Champion 7500W Dual Fuel Generator. Seems to be working fine. So far I've only used it when running in the generator, but it seemed to run two 1500w heaters (one for the 'red' plugs, one for the 'green' plugs) with no problem. As far as I can tell it doesn't have any lights to indicate the power is on, but it does have dots painted on it to indicate which "half" of the 240v phase the plugs are connected to. You really need to perfectly balance the load between the red/green connectors to avoid overloading a circuit and tripping the breaker. The cable runs up the steps, across the porch and a few feet out the window. I tape the rest of the window opening with painter's tape to keep fumes out and install a carbon monoxide detector under the window to warn us if exhaust fumes somehow got in. I found the best option for me was to connect a 'big' device (like heaters etc.) to each of the red/green plugs on either end of the 4 plugs. I then connected the ground floor power strip to one and the second floor power strip + power strip to the other so I can plug in lighter equipment (a few lights, a few fans, fish tank, phone chargers). It's best to get heavy-duty extension cords, 12 AWG or better, so you don't accidentally overload them. You can never have an extension that's too heavy. My only "complaint", if you can call it that, has to do with the thick wires that this cable contains. and it wouldn't work where people might trip over it. This is fairly easy to work out with a little planning, but something to be aware of. Once in place it seems to stay in place. Some of the technical details were difficult for me. The generator puts out 240 volts with neutral and ground just like what powers your electrical panel. This cable connects one 240V solid to a standard green pair of 5-20 connectors to the neutral wire, and then connects the other 240V solid to another pair of standard 5-20 red connectors. Although the plugs are 15 or 20 amp outlets, you can only get 30 amps of 120v from red plugs and 30 amps of 120v from green plugs. This gives you the highest possible combo circuits with a total of 60A 120V or 7200W they advertise. One final note: this cable does not provide you with ground fault protection. As stated on the label, it is designed for use with a plug that connects directly to the generator. Control panel and a "fan" from 120V sockets in the house.
