When Flir announced its first thermal imaging scope for use as a smartphone accessory, I researched and reviewed it, but it had too many flaws for my needs. Some time later they introduced their third generation, the Flir One, and it was such an improvement that I pre-ordered direct from the manufacturer and received one of the first about a month before its August 2017 release. When I used it I regretted buying the simpler of the two models they had at the time, but it was still extremely useful to me. The main downside was that while the thermal image was good the spatial relation to the job or project wasn't that good ie I could see temperature variations but that was hard to compare to what I was working with. I waited to see what their next generation would bring and didn't follow what they were doing for a while until I saw an ad for this model. They recently updated the Pro version, which is also included in the Pro Lite model. WHAT WILL MAKE IT DIFFERENT asked Flir and her answer was very simple. They said the PRO has "a more powerful thermal sensor coupled with advanced image processing, VividIR for sharper and clearer thermal images, more camera features including multiple point measurements, customizable regions of interest, IR scale and scene dynamic range of up to 400°C." (752˚F)". I've expanded her answer with the following information. Among other things, there are three standout features that made me make this update. The higher resolution is the first, now it complements the capabilities of my iPhone Xs Max much better. And an improved scheme to help me see the object I'm drawing over its thermal map. And third, this model is much more durable, which always let my old model down because it was so delicate. COMPARED TO FLIR ONE - Thermal resolution: ONE = 80 x 60 pixels PRO = 160 x 120 pixels - Object temperature range: ONE = -20°C to 120°C (-4°F to 248°F) PRO = -20°C to 400° C (-4°F to 752°F) - Thermal sensitivity (lower mK = higher sensitivity and better image) ONE = 150 µm PRO = 70 mK - VividIR image enhancement: ONE = No PRO = Yes - Image presentation : ONE = MSX Only PRO = Infrared, Visual, MSX, Gallery - Battery life - 1 hour for both models, incl ch radiometry or the ability to take accurate temperature measurements, and even multiple temperature points for situations where accurate determination of temperature differences in a scene is critical. After capturing an image or video, FLIR ONE Pro allows users to analyze the image and send reports to their clients with the push of a button, simplifying communication and saving time on the job site. YES OR NO I assume you know what it is. tool and how to use it. If not, I can assume reviews (including mine) aren't the best place to learn. The manufacturer has a wealth of information, including videos and case studies, and they do a better job of teaching you than reading someone else's opinion. I wasn't impressed with the narrow difference between the base model and the latest PRO model. Maybe it's because I don't need some of the advanced features on a daily basis, but that doesn't mean I'm not happy to have them. I've bought too many tools in the past that didn't have features I thought I'd never use and was disappointed when the time came that I only needed them once. The standout feature that everyone can see and appreciate is how much better the visual camera image is, allowing you to see the thermal image overlaid better. Whether using this for your own measurements or to demonstrate to a client, this is a very important feature to me and worth at least part of the price difference. I also like that the PRO is significantly more powerful, these things aren't cheap, and the base model feels very fragile in comparison. Perhaps the biggest difference is that the PRO model automatically kicks the app into higher gear, with many features and options locked in the base models. Like I said, you might not use them every day, but they exist for a reason and (I think) that helps offset the rest of the cost difference. So yeah I suggest paying an extra hundred bucks if you do it at all you probably won't look back.
