My 2002 325XI starts to sit on Tuesday with all the symptoms of an alternator failure. Battery light, gang! Light and a host of other electrical nuisances. With a cursory look at the pulley, I realized I had a Bosch block. I live in a small town and this seller was able to get me a generator quicker and for less than half the cost of one of my local parts stores (3 days including July 4th). It's an easy install, I used an OEM plastic nut on the rear stud instead of the plain zinc nut that came with the kit, but other than that it's an hour's work. Since you're already there, it's time to replace the belts and idler pulley. You must also remove the clutch fan and shroud which are known to become brittle over time and destroy engines. Switching to a 5-speed E46 electric fan is an easy decision that suits smarts well.
