I sent them back because of a seam on my toes. Turn them inside out (first and third photos) and you'll be alarmed, but moderately comfortable. Wearing them "facing out" (second photo) looks better, but can cause blisters. The brand new yarn is loosely woven and the light shines through two layers of socks (slightly stretched to show it better in the last photo, but some light shines through with no stretch). The heel wears out quickly and will never "cushion". Wigwam El Pine socks seem like the best option now that my stash of discontinued REI classics has run out.
