I needed a battery charger/motor starter, at the beginning of my research I wanted to buy a wheel assembly that would be stored in my garage until needed when needed on the vehicle roll. I also have a boat that takes 4 batteries and if the docks need a battery starter I could start it. Also, the batteries on the boat and motorbike are AGM, I need a device that can both charge and start (most chargers/starters won't both fit), after a little more research I found the Schumacher SC1308. This is a small unit from a company that has always been around, trusted mechanics I have dealt with and who stated that if they bought it this would be the one unit they would buy. They also said that being able to charge different classes of batteries with additional current would be a good choice. Also explained the options to let you know the status of the batteries, with automatic 6 or 12 volt charging, a timer and the ability to lift it with one hand and carry it anywhere without a large bulky device lugging around works for me. . A caveat even though they sell two units that are almost identical, with this unit having a higher boost rating and the other only 30 amps I believe. But make no mistake, this device needs to be connected to an AC power source in order to work, it is not a portable jump starter to be kept in the glove compartment of your car. Overall I think this is a great device with lots of operations it does automatically for you to give you a high level view of your battery when charging or starting up.
