Old paint removed from behind wooden shutters on the bricks of a 1950's house. It wasn't easy, but my Japanese maples and hydrangeas were unaffected by this product in the soil. I covered all the plants to protect the leaves. Photos show before and after applying one coat and pressure washing at 3000psi for 2 hours. Important Notes & Tips I Learned Using This Product: I would prefer to apply more coats after a light pressure wash than after a long pressure wash to remove stubborn ink. I was determined to complete the project in one day without ordering more paint remover, but ended up damaging the grout. Do not apply in direct sunlight as it dries quickly and becomes ineffective. Pre-rinse the surface of the brick with a hose as the brick is porous and will absorb water from the product. I noticed the remover was drying out and quickly sprayed it with a hose every 30 minutes to keep it saturated. Take precautions to prevent water damage to the building you are working on. For obvious reasons, remove vehicles or other objects from an area that could damage the surface of this product. I would be concerned about damaging my windows with one of these processes, but I had new windows installed a week later. Apply at dusk or dawn, depending on when the brick is not exposed to direct sunlight. As a precaution, cover the plants with a tarpaulin. It may take multiple applications to completely remove the color. I used a full container to double the area shown. You can damage or disturb the grout that needs to be buckled by using a pressure washer. You must wear safety goggles and earplugs. An ideal option would be a personal raincoat and rubber boots. They will be covered with water and loose mortar or bricks. I felt like I was covered in sand. Grayco makes a good face shield which I would have liked to have had at the time, instead I ended up rinsing my eyes with a hose after getting a piece of sand in one eye just from wearing goggles. Fasten the seams and bricks with mortar in advance so that water does not get on the inner walls of your building. Spray away from you at a 45 degree angle. Lower pressure pressure washers may require more applications of the product but are also gentler on brick and mortar. These are just some of the things I noticed when using the product as a DIY one summer. Depending on your situation, other issues may arise. Before starting work, read the manufacturer's instructions and safety data sheet. It's best to hire an insured handyman and avoid all of this in the future.
