Review on WoodRiver Low Angle Block Plane With Adjustable Mouth by Firman Harrington

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Nice block plane when on sale.

My $99.99 WR low angle block plane performed good on oak after sharpening the blade almost razor sharp. This style lever cap works when the slotted lever cap screw height is properly adjusted. The slotted lever cap screw positioned in the narrow area of the "skeleton key hole" when the cap is closed seems to work. The plane body sides are square to the sole. After a tiny "paper cut" on my index fingerI used a diamond file on the sharp machined edges of the sole.My block plane sole is already flat. There is no need to make the sole thinner and weaker.I did not sand and polish the plane sole to a mirror finish.I will try the plane sole just the way it is with wax and decide later. The depth adjuster is okay but doesn't impress me much.Slots in the blade vs a hole for my newer low angle Stanley SW.Overall, this is a nice block plane when on sale for $99.99I don't know how long the warranty is other than the 90 day return at the wood caft store.

Pros
  • Block Planes
Cons
  • The blade may be prone to chipping or breaking if mishandled
