Very well made. Worth the money. LV and LN have every reason to be concerned. As far as this China factory goes, they turn out product that's every bit as good. I bought a low angle block from LV when they first came out and paid about 90 dollars for that too. The Wood River is just as well made. If you need new planes and actually use them, take a serious look at the WoodCraft V3 line, if they follow LVs pricing strategy they'll ratchet up the prices about 10% a year until somebody else comes…

I was so impressed with woodrivers #4 & #5 planes that I decided to buy the low angle and standard angle block plane set. I don't see them advertised on ebay anymore so I'm writing my review here. First the good. Both block planes are typical of woodriver. They are machined well. The bottoms are flat. The blades are flat. They are easy to adjust and they look great. Now for the bad. It needs some work out of the box. I used a file to ease the edges and throat. It took about 45 minutes to hone the back and bevel to a mirror polish.

It was well greased and snug in its cheap cardboard box. The fit and finish looked great out of the box but, the iron was badly twisted and it took 3 hours and 5 beers to flatten the back on a dmt course stone.I will update when I get it a sharp user.

Definitely a nice plane right out of the box. Looks fantastic. The sole was pretty much flat, only needed a tiny bit of work. The ONLY reason I'm not giving a full 5 stars has to do with the adjustable mouth. For some reason, it's lost adjustment a few times, causing the mouth to close against the blade during use. Otherwise, a nice little block plane overall.

I got this on sale at woodcraft (sorry ebay) and compared to the alternates it is a real bargain. It is great for cleaning up end grain, small tear outs and edges. The one I got was true and ready to go out of the box. All I had o do was wipe the protective gunk off the cap and iron. The cap iron is released by pulling up on the knuckle, a nice touch. This is a serious tool with weight to it and very easy to use and adjust. Once adjusted everything stays in place. I watched many reviews and it paid off as I was up and running in less than an hour of adjustments relating to my immediate need of cleaning / planing the top of my workbench.
