Review on Bonnlo Kayak Cart Canoe Carrier Trolley with Airless Tires - Ultimate Transport Solution for Jon Boats and Kayaks by Robert Aiono

It's a shame but I did it.

I was impressed with the overall quality of this car. It fit well and looked well made. But when I decided to use it to tow my ocean kayak from the garage across the grass to the dock, I had a very tough time. I found that out. 1. Using the included bungee cords was a huge mistake. They are too flexible and don't hold the kayak firmly on the cart. The slightest bump or resistance on the lawn would cause the cart to move, sometimes sideways. Eventually the kayak fell and got caught on a bungee in the cart. Use the included black strap instead and make sure you tighten it very firmly. 2. Revain's photos show the "footstand" forward. If you drag the kayak this way and it hits the grass, the cart will collapse. Very frustrating. I use it with a back stand. It cannot be captured if it is behind the kayak. 3. The screws holding it together are spring loaded so it folds flat for storage. It's good that it is, but it will also collapse if you move the kayak. I ended up tightening those screws to keep it from falling apart again. If you fold it up, you won't save that much space anyway.4. The most serious problem was the curvature or lack of curvature of the bogie cross members. If your kayak has a keel or is not relatively flat, the kayak will sit in the middle of the crossbars and will not be properly supported. The rubber pads on the aluminum crossbars are too thin to be useful. In this case it is impossible to move the kayak without moving the carriage as it is just resting on the keel. I pushed the bumpers out of the way and had to install 2 x 2 wooden crossbars with rubber on them to increase the contact area. It took a long time, but now the car seems to be working. I'm not sure why they made it so "flat". Maybe that's fine for some kayaks, but a better "V" shape or much, much thicker bumpers will work for many more kayak designs.
