Arrived late. The product did not stay dry.

This item arrived late. I read the product reviews and decided to purchase despite the Nas reviews. I used to have a similar item from another manufacturer and needed a replacement but could not find the same item. I will use them to store my phone and e-book on the beach. I won't be using it underwater but would like my stuff to be protected in case it gets wet. Before using the items I did a test to see if they work. I put paper towels in each bag, sealed them and put them in water. Water has entered two bags, one more than the other. One paper towel was damp and the other wet. This simple test will show the owner if the product works before they find out the hard way that it doesn't! At least I know I can keep my stuff in bags so the sand doesn't damage my stuff, but I wouldn't put them in water. As others have pointed out, the strings are very cheaply made. The hole they thread through goes through the "waterproof" part of the bags and they don't appear to be heavily reinforced. The previous pouch I had was designed with common sense, with two lace holes at the top of each. It also had a vinyl fold secured and locked with two latches. I don't trust the velcro because it will inevitably get lint, thread and other objects. This happens with all Velcro fasteners. I'm also not happy with the fold of the product, which another reviewer commented. When I read this I thought that this person was a little obsessed, but now I see that is not the case. Finally, vinyl is very hard. Another pouch I had was made of a very soft, pliable material and came in a variety of colors. This item is transparent and too hard to be comfortable.
