I brought this gate to replace the old wooden gate which was a headache but had to be readjusted each time we used it to herd our dogs into the common room. That works great. You set the opening width once and don't have to set it again if your door opening is the same. It's snug and my GSP hasn't knocked it over yet. It would have been 5 stars if I was the only one using it as I had no problem pulling the release handle and pushing down to lock. I am quite strong but my 80 year old parents are not strong enough to push the handle to lock or pull the handle to release. I was looking for a gate they might as well walk us through the common room as needed where I let the dogs through to get to the garage. I only lock dogs in the common room when I'm not at home because two large, quick-tempered APS can confuse my elderly parents. We use the gate but my elderly parents have to go outside to access the garage. Hopefully the grip will loosen up over time.
