Review on Sceptre C248W 1920R Monitor: Curved DisplayPort Screen with Built-In Speakers, Wall Mountable & Flicker-Free Technology - C248W-1920R by Jim Huper

I bought two of these to replace a couple of older displays, one of which was struggling after almost 5 years of heavy use. I didn't originally want curved monitors, but I went with them because the price was reasonable for the monitor's size, refresh rate, and overall look. Here are my impressions after using them for about 2 months: Pros: - 75Hz at 1080p* - Thin bezels - Physically they REALLY look good - Everything looks good after color matching (although you REALLY do need) Neutral: - See what asterisk after update rate? This is the first warning. If you use a "non-standard" cable, you'll get a maximum refresh rate of 60Hz. In this case, "non-standard" means any cable whose ends don't match - HDMI/DisplayPort has been locked to 60Hz if They wanted the monitor to work, while DisplayPort/DVI failed completely. At first I thought they were a bad pair of monitors until I tried direct HDMI. I now have one on HDMI and one on DisplayPort, both of which run correctly at 75Hz according to Windows. - The buttons for navigating the monitor's menus are pretty bad, but not useless - The back is pretty ugly - but let's face it, you'll never see them anyway - Personally, I can't see the Flex unless I'm looking at the front panel. It may be pro. - They have built in speakers which I never used. - One of my monitors has weird backlight issues that are only visible when the panel wakes up. - The quality of the panel leaves a lot to be desired, but as you can see, this is a budget monitor. I knew what I was getting myself into. Cons: - No VESA mounting screws included. I have them ready now but I had to buy the screws from Lowes. - Colors out of the box vary greatly between monitors - Small issue, but the power lights blink when the monitor is in sleep mode. At least they're not very bright - Bad monitor hum. At first I thought it was my speakers but when I checked it was coming from the back of the panel. I sit pretty close to my monitors, so now I get a clearly visible monitor background in stereo. Working in a quiet environment will drive you crazy. - Terrible power stones. I don't understand WHY they didn't use a standard fork or a smaller stone, but this section deserves its own paragraph: - It's short - It's branded - The stone itself is SOLID. I use a backup power supply and each power supply takes up the space of two connectors. Despite the above cons, I still give this monitor 4 stars. That's because all the negatives are compensated for, and none of them matter to me (except maybe the monitor hum, but I have headphones and rarely work in a really quiet environment). To be honest, for budget monitors, that's pretty good. Affordable 1080p 24 inch over 60 Hz thin bezel monitors are rare beasts. If the cons listed above aren't critical for you, then I highly recommend these monitors.
