I had no issues with this playing (i.e. ejecting) from my 2003 Tacoma. It made a little bit of mechanical noise, but nothing you could even hear if you were actually driving. The sound quality was actually FAR better than I expected, I would say it was "really good" for the stock old stereo system I've got. I really wanted to like this adapter but. there was a constant hum when it was in the deck whether you were playing music or not. You really couldn't notice it with any loud music playing. But if you were listening to quiet music or an audiobook it was very noticeable to the point of being rather annoying. I don't know if I had a defective unit (I have not read any other reviews complaining of a hum). I would have liked to try a replacement unit to see if it was just a problem with the one I had, but Insten would not let me do that.Lots of negative reviews on this product have Insten replying to the review saying "please contact us." so I just sent them an e-mail as they requested so many negative reviewers do. I received a very unhelpful reply that just said "You ordered through Best Buy, so do the return through Best Buy." So I initiated the return through Best Buy and there was no option to get a replacement unit. They would only issue a refund. In the past I've had plenty of companies send me a replacement immediately and give me a 30-day window to return the old one. That way you can make sure the replacement works properly and do a side-by-side comparison. No option to do that here. And I'm certainly not going to order a second one because the sheer number of bad reviews and the only experience I have had was with a bad unit.I don't want to spend $20 on the Monster adapter, but maybe that's the only way to increase my chances of getting one that works well.UPDATE - After much searching through fake knock offs on [you can guess what online auction site] I found a vintage (the only way to be sure it wasn't a knock off) Sony CPA3 for $12 including shipping. AWESOME. And knowing it's vintage Sony (in great condition) it should last as long as the vehicle does. If the new stuff is all expensive and crap, and your only other option seems to be spending $3-$6 every month on new cheap, cheap adapters. used might not be such a bad idea.
