Review on DANIEL SMITH Extra Watercolor Cerulean by Carol Miller

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Tube may be defective - does not meet Daniel Smith standards

I have purchased 3 tubes of Daniel Smith paints: Burnt Umber, Prussian Blue and Cerulean Blue. I first tried Daniel Smith after using M. Graham, Old Holland, Sennelier and WN watercolors. The first two colors (umber and Prussian blue) are excellent - they wet quickly and well, smooth out and have a pleasing rich hue. However, my Cerulean Blue is very disappointing. poorly wetted; When wet, there are uneven patches of paint, and it is difficult to get it out of the hole even with the best brush. I suspect it could be an old tube that had been in storage for some time, or maybe there wasn't enough gum arabic, I don't know. M.Graham), but that cerulean blue pipe doesn't seem to belong here. Considering the cost, this is disappointing as it's practically unusable. But I would recommend two other colors.
