Not elastic at all.
The pants were very stiff, felt rough, not stretchy at all. I had to beg my kid to at least try them on. The pants certainly fit which is great for skinny kids, we needed a little more in the waist. My child is 52 inches tall and a size 8 is perfect for about an inch tall.
