Review on SAMSUNG 970 EVO Plus SSD 2TB - High-Speed M.2 NVMe Interface Internal Solid State Drive with V-NAND Technology (MZ-V7S2T0B/AM) by Mateusz Marek ᠌

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The product did not disappoint, the quality pleases.

I had to buy a more massive radiator, because. with the standard there were significant temperature differences, in particular the controller. The zone between the video card and the CPU makes itself felt, there is always + 10-15g from the external environment, whether you like it or not, even if the ssd is "sleeping" (by default, it is disabled in the BIOS on all desktops). I put 0.5mm spacers on the flash, and 1mm on the rest, but this is a custom height-adjustable radiator. The standard radiators of motherboards are usually strictly fixed in height, as are their gaskets, so just shove gaskets under the flash 0.4 ~ 0.5mm less than the base thickness of the existing gasket on the radiator, only in this case the radiator will completely remove heat from everywhere, nothing else for everyone 970evo / 980pro models for 2TB, alas. Externally, the boards differ significantly from the old revision on the phoenix, the block of capacitors in the middle stands out the most, which is always asymmetric on the elpis, but symmetrical on the phoenix, well, PN on the sticker. Youtube blogger "ProSSD" has detailed tests of both revisions. In the screenshot, the operating modes are already with a custom radiator. It was ordered from the aliexpress warehouse a month ago, while there were discounts, but the price had already increased by ~ 50% in a month.

Pros
  • -I got actually cut down on the 980pro bus, but at a price like 970 Evo plus, model "MZVL22T0HBLB" with an Elpis controller. -Elpis is colder and faster than Phoenix in general, 4k operation is almost 2 times higher. -Significantly larger SLC cache in comparison with the revision on the phoenix, before it is exhausted ssd rocket, in domestic conditions it is extremely difficult to exhaust it even purposefully.
Cons
  • -There is no reliable information anywhere about what kind of flash is used in the revision with Elpis, it is only clear that the linear recording after the exhaustion of the slc cache is 2 times lower (800MB / s) than that of the revision with the phoenix. But as I noted above - in domestic conditions you need to try to do this. -ALL versions on 2TB flash are "thick", flash / drum / controller - all have different heights, but the flash is higher than the rest by about 0.4~0.5mm. The regular radiator with a thick gasket of 1.5mm, but oak, hardly touched the edge of the controller and did not cool it in any way, given that this is the hottest and most vulnerable part of the ssd, but it significantly tried to bend the ssd by pressing on the flush when the radiator was only half twisted . The root cause of the failure of any electronics is not above the temperature, but primarily wide and sharp temperature drops, even in the conditionally "cold" range. For all m2 and their controllers, this is a sore subject, sensors are usually not installed on them or hidden from the user for obvious reasons.
