Surprisingly, this easel can be used standing! Most easels like this are usually only meant to be used on a table or maybe perched on a stool. I was able to get used to this, especially when getting up. I'm tall so this works but I wish it was a little taller for me but it WORKS when I'm standing. Just note that this is a very light easel and therefore not the sturdiest in the world the higher you place the canvas and easel. At best, you are also limited in the weight and size of your canvas. For me I don't work on stuff that massive so this totally works for me and I can stand! Also, it is best not to use the easel around pets or small children hanging around in the highest setting. Otherwise this is a fantastic easel. It's pretty strong (especially the lower you hold it) but EXTREMELY light. It is VERY easy to set up and customize. The only thing I had to do on mine was tighten the screws so they could securely hold the bottom canvas holder/support bar. But other than that it was ready to use.
