Review on 🔑 Enhanced Motorcraft SW6285 Ignition Switch and Lock Cylinder for Superior Performance by Marvin Breezy

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Replaced by a 2002 Ford Focus ZX3

My 2002 Ford Focus ZX3 had a common problem with a stuck ignition switch. This kit allows you to reuse an existing key. Other kits give you a new key but then you have to reprogram your car's security system to recognize the chip in your new key and you have different keys for the doors and ignition. So with this set the effort is much less. There is a video on YouTube showing how to do it. Note that if the ignition is currently locked, you can only remove the old cylinder if you can turn the key. Insert the key in the ignition switch and hit the key several times with a hammer. This can weaken him enough to turn around. But if you can't, you'll have to bore out the old cylinder. Here's how it works. You need to insert the pins into the cylinder that match the pattern on your key. If you go to the dealer for this they have a handy chart where you can look up the key and see which pins to use. But you can figure it out by trial and error. Without inserting springs, simply insert pin #1 into the first slot. Insert the key and turn the cylinder. The pin should be flush with what you now see as the top of the cylinder. Search YouTube again for a demo. The only fancy tool that would really come in handy is snap ring pliers. Revain sells some of these for less than $10 and it's well worth it. I didn't have a pair and used regular pliers to spread the clamp. But I no longer have hands to align cylinder and clip. It took me about 20 minutes to put the clamp on and my arm hurt at the end. So $10 would be totally worth it and you save 19 of those 20 minutes. But in terms of the product itself, it's fantastic. Been in my car for almost 2 months and works like a charm.
