I had no problem replacing my old 400w metal halide bays with these. They're just as bright or even brighter than the aging 400W Metal Halide and will certainly add brightness to an area that was previously 250W. They seem to have a color temperature of exactly 5000K in daylight. They come with an extra safety wire/chain and clip which I believe are required by law in certain areas. However, you will need a chain for the main attachment ring. I've used them to replace 220/230/240v lights, just cut off the plugs, stripped the wires and connected the black and white with two hot wires and had no problems.
