This VA Monitor AKA Scepter C248B-144RK is perfect for my upgrade needs. The price was exactly $138 and thanks to CamelCamelCamel I was waiting for the right moment to make a purchase. As it replaces a 15 year old monitor the difference in quality is amazing and not worth mentioning. VA monitors are a compromise between IPS gaming models and older TN panels that have high latency performance but don't have good viewing angles and poorer color reproduction. I'm not a gamer so I like curved models and only need one. If a gamer, then three would be ideal for a turn around. IPS models have lower latency (4ms) than TN (1ms) but better contrast. This VA monitor is a compromise between the two. 120 to 144 Hz is good. Of course, real gamers want to spend a lot on ultra-wide, but I don't. There are other priorities for $700. In addition, FreeSync uses AMD's "open technology". No chip is used. Instead, it uses the Adaptive-Sync technology built into the DisplayPort standard. You also need to be using DisplayPort (not HDMI) to take advantage of it. Again, this isn't a problem for me as I'm not a gamer, but if it were I would change the port connection. For some, screen tearing is a problem when playing games. All in all, this is a very good monitor that combines the best at a great price.
