Installed on a 2004 GMC Yukon XL. I've lived with this for a while and so far it's working great. There are plenty of accessory ports but I didn't want to buy and carry more cigarette lighter type chargers so it's almost perfect, neatly installed and I'm happy. I had an empty switch slot to fit it in and it went easily with a slight modification to the nut to fit my particular space. or the always hot power line and total power consumption of the circuit. I connected power and ground to the cigarette lighter (with solder and heat shrink tubing - I hate when people strip the insulation, just twist the wire and wrap it with tape. Then I have to go through and find a short circuit). On my other car, the socket turns on and off with the key and the GMC is always hot. This can be a problem for mis-drawing if it's not a daily driver (I'm not), but the blue light is pretty bright when it's on, so it's a good reminder to turn it off and allows me to start my Charge phone off-key like I'm in a store. Connection to the cigarette lighter wire is also acceptable, since the wires in the circuit are designed for a fairly large load. However, if you have children or a naughty spouse who wants to sabotage your camping trip, you can harness the power of the key. You have to consider the load on the chain. Many key wires are quite small, and adding watts can blow a fuse or heat the wires to melt at full load. Don't touch anything you consider vital. I didn't want to connect it to my radio or HVAC circuit as that would be pretty close to full circuit load, and I don't want to leave the house when I want to charge two devices in the desert. . It's a bit more work to get the backup working, but I'm still wondering if there should ever be a problem. It would be a lot easier if it just turned itself off when not in use.
