My Miele vacuum cleaner is over 30 years old but this filter keeps the exhaust clean. Be sure to turn on the replacement indicator when installing a new one; it predicts fairly accurately when a new filter will be needed. Older vacuums like mine may require more frequent filter changes due to dust buildup in the motor. When the exhaust starts to smell like dust, then it's time. Using good quality bags (preferably Miele in my experience) and replacing them when full will extend the life of the filter.
