Review on πŸ’Ώ Western Digital 500GB 2.5" HDD for PlayStation 3/4 (PS3 Fat, Slim, Super Slim, PS4) by Bubba Ott

Worked great. - Data storage

We still use our PS3 quite a bit, but the old 60GB hard drive has become a major limitation. So I finally decided to increase the size to 500GB and I'm very happy with the results. It was hard to figure out which brand and size would be best to order, but in the end I felt more comfortable with a trusted brand like Western Digital. I also did a lot of research online and decided not to go over the recommended specs for a PS3 hard drive upgrade. I know a lot of people have used SSDs and/or installed 1TB drives, but reviews seemed to be quite mixed when opting for newer technology or higher capacity. My analysis showed that users generally had better luck stopping at 5200 and 500GB. Also, like many others, I have found that that blue screw holding the hard drive in place and the 4 small ones holding the hard drive in the bracket are extremely difficult to remove. Please make sure you use the correct screwdriver. If it doesn't, you can do what I and many others have done and remove the screw, which makes it difficult to remove. I ended up using needle nose pliers to remove a few screws - I didn't think it would work but luckily it did. Otherwise, make sure you watch some YouTube videos that show you the process and you should be up and running without any major issues. I downloaded all my PS3 information onto a flash drive, swapped out the hard drives and installed the PS3 information onto the new hard drive. I recommend the CNET video on YouTube. Very good step by step instructions.
