Long waits for hot water

My water heater is about 100 feet from the kitchen sink where the pipe goes, so it takes a few minutes to get hot water to the sink. The home reenactor already had most of the hardware, copper tubing and fittings, a check valve and an Aquastad thermostatic regulator. Therefore, I decided to use this pump to assemble a pumping system for hot water. I use an outlet to clean dirt and leave the switch in the "on" position. Then we added Smartplug, which turns on garbage disposal by voice command and turns off recycling automatically after 12 seconds. If that doesn't work, the electricity can be turned off next to the sink on the way to the dishwasher. I use a dishwasher hot water shut-off valve because the hot water supply and pump drain goes to an unused cold water valve that has been installed. for some unknown reason, but might as well use it since it's there. So I made a small manifold out of copper tubing to connect to the pump and create another dishwasher feed as well as a pump mount. The dishwasher's supply valve is then connected to a manifold with a stainless steel supply line, and the dishwasher receives water from a new point on the manifold. The pump drain then goes to a check valve so the water only flows one way and then connects to an empty cold water valve under the sink. The Aquastad thermostat is attached to a copper pipe that runs from the wall to the original dishwasher valve, this low temperature control switches off at 105 degrees and on at 85. The Aquastad cycles on and off after about 2 minutes of operation and takes about 40 minutes to cool before the pump turns on again. The system is not perfect because you have some hot water. The water is on the cold side now, but if you just start washing your hands you'll get rid of that stagnant hot water pretty quickly. outside of bedtime. and the rest of the time I just use the voice command to turn on the hot water pump for a minute before use and then turn it off. This works well without pouring gallons of water down the drain and waiting for it to heat up, and also without using a lot of gas in the water heater to heat the water when I don't need it. I found that the Sonoff smart socket I use for the pump has a cycle timer setting and if you set the first variable to the time you want the device to start it. can turn off the device. So I set it to 2 minutes. This allows me to ask Alexa to turn on the pump and sonoff will automatically turn off the pump after 2 minutes. The pump makes little noise, but you can hear it a little to let you know it's on. Update 0 months, pump still works. Excellent. Voice activation with Alexa failed multiple times due to WiFi loss. After the trash removal stayed enabled, I had to use the switch on the back to turn it off. This will also reset the smart switches to find Wi-Fi when the switch is turned back on, so it's not a big deal. I had an Alexa linked app that controlled a 12 second shutdown timer while the garbage recycling program was running. This company has stepped out of the shadows so now I have to use a voice command to turn off the disposal. Since disposal is noisy, you must speak louder. Until I found another timer that ran in seconds. Just minutes. Running disposal for 1 minute is too long so all I have on voice commands for now. Since I stopped wasting gallons of water down the drain while waiting for hot water, my monthly water bill has dropped by about $10. Month. So the pump is almost paid for. Another bonus was instant hot water in both bathrooms. I disabled the morning timer for 1 hour. I have Revain points on all three floors of the house so I just ask for hot water when I wake up or go to one of the bathrooms and the hot water is waiting for me when I get there. Update 2 1/2 So after my 10 month update I lost the app that was controlling the second timer to disable recycling at a selected time. The company that controlled the app went bankrupt. It took me 12 seconds. Well, I found that Sonoff Wi-Fi Switches have a slow toggle feature that can be turned on. This feature was added by a firmware update I think, but not sure. You can control the jog switch closing time from 1/2 second to 1 hour. This was what I needed to disable recycling at a specific time so I didn't have to use a voice command to disable recycling. I placed two Sonoff switches for the pump and disposal in the electrical box next to the front door of the sink cabinet. The switches also make it easy to activate the switches with an integrated software button that acts as a power button even if there is an issue with the Wi-Fi. The system ran for a couple of years and the only problem was that the Sonoff switch had a burnt green LED, but the switch still worked fine. I eventually replaced it. Mounting the Sonoff switches flush to the switch cover was done in a gooey manner using lots of double-sided foam tape. Therefore, replacing switches is a cumbersome operation. I installed a similar system for a couple in my city condo complex last year and they love it. I've uploaded a fifth picture of the Sonoff switches under the sink in my final setup. The fourth picture is outdated. The system is only as reliable as your WiFi connection. So the geek gene helps keep it going.

Pros
  • Easy to use
Cons
  • Almost fine
