This is the second lever of this type that I have installed on our Jetta 2001 (the previous one was installed 5.5 years and 50,000 miles ago. It is a good product for the price. The trunk material holds up well the previous one but it's slipping off the shifter rod.Looks like this new one will likely have the same problem.The problem is that it doesn't sit far enough on the shifter rod to reach the dotted area where the knob attaches For this I added a small amount of silicone glue/sealant to try and give it some grip once it has set. Time will tell how it performs. So why give 3 stars and not something lower? If so Go to Not you really get a lot for the price Looks good and does the job it just doesn't fit exactly like the OEM stove You just need to tweak the design a bit and it would be a great replacement no questions asked. Without these changes, however, I'll be spending the extra bucks on an OEM replacement the next time that knob slips off. I wish VW had used a screw cap shift knob in these cars instead. Or maybe I can drill a hole in the base of the handle (under the trunk) and move the post to install the spring pin as well.
