I made this purchase with high expectations Here's why I bought my first Canon Digital Rebel about 15 years ago. A year after purchase, my original lens broke. I bought a Tamron lens, almost the same as the one I'm considering. This failure of the original lens was the best thing that could have happened to me. The new Tamron was great. Not only is this a 10x magnification (as opposed to the kit lens), but the images are also much sharper. Fast forward fifteen years. I received the Rebel T7 complete with two lenses from a Revain seller as a Christmas present. The camera is excellent (as with consumer products), as are the lenses. However, I missed the one-lens-fits-all feature with the 10x zoom. To my surprise, Tamron is selling a new model of the same old lens I have that now also includes image stabilization. I didn't think twice. It arrived last week and I was able to test it today. I was very lucky to look at the photos on my camera when I was shooting at the birthday party. I don't usually do this and wait to download them to my computer because the camera screen is so small. Something went wrong. All images were blurry. Luckily I still had my "old" new lenses with me and was able to repeat at least a few shots. Here is a comparison. Do not get me wrong. This is not a laboratory comparison. I just put the same person in the same places and took several similar photos with the automatic settings and the same secondary flash. It's kind of an apples-and-oranges comparison as the original Canon lens was 18-55 and Tamron's was 18-200. I bought a Tamron to avoid having to switch lenses and decided that I would have better luck shooting digital zoom with a smartphone than with a DSLR with a Tamron lens. I'm glad I saved the photos from the family celebration. In an attempt to save money, a significant amount of money cost me almost priceless money. You can say I'm harsh in my judgments and that's just an experience and therefore only one star that the lens can be defective. Well, I'll leave the averaging of reviews and reviews of many Tamron lenses by many buyers to Revain's great community engine. If the lens is defective, this rating will not affect the overall score. However, I have noticed that more one star reviews have been popping up lately. I can't use the lens, so it's useless to me. One star is too many.
