I found expanding a smaller hole to a larger one to be so tedious. Step drills simply make the job easier without clogging the hole. Now mine are pretty new and I've only used them 3 times so I don't know if they will hold up yet. The description says "titanized" but there's really no way of knowing for sure. First I drilled a stainless steel disc with the correct outside diameter, but I needed a larger hole. Cut out easily. Took off the gold "titanium" coating on the step to the larger hole, but didn't seem to damage the bat. To be honest, a $24 Counterstrike 5-bit set in a really nice padded carrying case is a good deal, even if they wear out quicker. Was the Milwaukee 3/4" HS Disposable Drill $45 at Lowes?
