Highly recommended, but you MUST replace the internal circuit board AND watch out for the ribbon cable clamps

This worked fine on my PS3 Slim (CECH 2001). This was my first attempt at replacing a disc on a PS3. You can find detailed instructions on the web to follow, but the basic steps are: 1. Take your PS3 apart (note that there are three "protective" screws that use special torx bits with a hole attached in the middle; however, I was able to pry them out with a tiny flathead screwdriver; thankfully they are NOT very tight). Also note that there are screws under the plastic inserts that you need to remove. Not difficult, but not obvious. Remove the PS3.2 top cover. Take out the internal power supply (2 screws and you need to unplug some cables).3. Remove the "bad" drive. You need to remove 1 screw on the back of the drive (which I forgot to put back but still works fine!). You'll also need to unplug a few cables and re-route the pair of cables that run "across" the drive (you'll need to tear the paper strip holding them). IMPORTANT: When removing thin ribbon cables, try lifting the tabs holding the cable in place first; Not only is the cable connected to resistance, it's held in place by these little plastic clips. I was stupid and just pulled the cables, but I should have known how the fasteners work when installing a new drive.4. You MUST disassemble the new drive, remove the mini circuit board inside and replace it with the old one. Here you have SEVERAL ribbon cables that you need to be very careful with. Do the reverse and reassemble everything. and viola, you must have a working PS3! The whole repair took about an hour. I spent almost $60 on a new drive, but it's worth it. So it is highly recommended if you are having disc on PS3 problems.
