Review on JAWOOZ Terrarium Temperature Hygrometer Tarantulas by Jon Thibeault

Revainrating 2 out of 5

Good potential, imperfect performance

I bought two of these to use for keeping land tarantulas (G. pulchripes and L. parahybana). They arrived very well packaged and in good condition. There are sandy residues from mechanical processing of acrylic. Acrylic coated with contact paper to protect against scratches. Contact paper is one of my two main complaints. Exceptionally difficult to remove. It wouldn't be so bad without cutouts and vents. For them, removing the contact paper takes exponentially longer than all other unboxing/assembly steps combined and makes the process quite painful. The body is assembled by inserting the tabs into the slots on the adjoining acrylic piece and then wrapping around the supplied silicone straps. around tabs to keep them in place. The assembly is uncomplicated and simple. As suggested, look carefully at the photos of the assembled product and you will understand everything. The lid is the Achilles heel of this product. It consists of two parts. The back is fixed to the body with the silicone straps mentioned above. The front inserts into the back and slides back and forth about 1/4 inch (1/2 cm). In the front position, the lid lifts and gives access to the inside. The lid is locked in the rear position. The problem is that the acrylic is flimsy and a creature strong enough can easily rock the lid back and forth, making it easier to escape. Acrylic is also fairly thin (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, depending on what you're planning to put inside) and flexible, and being strong enough the lid can be bent upwards even in the locked position, making it easier to escape can. Tarantulas are fairly strong creatures and have been known to throw lids off their enclosures if not properly secured. For these reasons, I would say that this product is totally unacceptable for storing tarantulas without modifying the lid to protect it from a determined spider. Since scorpions cannot climb acrylic, this enclosure is suitable for housing without modification. One more comment/criticism. Because acrylic is fairly thin (1/8 inch or 1/5 cm), placing items that require additional heat (most reptiles and amphibians) will cause the acrylic to warp and warp in predictable ways. I will keep and modify both hulls. Covers to prevent escape. I will update this review if I learn of any design or manufacturing process changes to address these issues.

Pros
  • High transparency: 360 degree viewing angle is visually completely transparent, clear and bright, easy to observe and easy to clean.
Cons
  • Hard to say
