This machine is ready to use right out of the box. and works great on almost all fabrics. Others have mentioned problems with tension and broken threads, but I haven't had any problems with tension or broken threads after doing two very simple things: The first and MOST IMPORTANT is to add a simple felt pad to the back end of the thread spindle. This simple thing will save you from disappointments with a broken thread. This is because the spool of thread rotates faster than the machine can sew the thread, causing the thread to become tangled and wound up on the spindle, there is no tension, the thread breaks. The felt pad reduces the rotation of the filament spool so the filament is pulled at a controlled speed, maintaining machine tension. So simple but effective. Another trick is the mesh for the coils. This simple "sock" keeps the line from slipping off the spool. Felt padding and spool fabric will eliminate almost EVERY thread breakage problem, both are inexpensive and can be purchased here at Revain. Who would have thought it could be so easy! I have used this machine to embroider cotton, wool felt, cotton cord and velvet (for making lace) and had no issues with stringing/breaking. So back to the car.
