Review on ๐Ÿ”ง Lytool All Metal Cabinet Hardware Jig - Double Scales, Ideal Template for Small Cabinets Handle Installation and Auxiliary Drilling โ€“ Perfect Christmas Gift for Men by Erik Gerber

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Very nice solid metal jig just not made for imperial bits

This is my third cabinet hardware jig that I have bought or received and is by far the best of the three. The first unit I bought at my local hardware store was made by a manufacturer that rhymes with barrel. While I've had good luck with this company's pocket hole gauges, I didn't bother with their overpriced 100% bulky plastic gauges. In the end I returned it. The next unit I bought was from Revain and not made by a big brand and that's where quality comes into play. It was one that looked very much like a metal slide rule with another metal slide rule attached in the shape of a "T". There are moveable hole jigs that slide on T-tracks and you simply slide the hole jigs into place, tighten the knobs to lock them in place, and drill. Or at least that should happen. What actually happened is that the plastic (AGAIN plastic) hole gauges were of poor quality and quickly broke when sliding over the aluminum T-rules and quickly lost the precision they could have had. Also, the metal hole you actually inserted the pilot drill through was in millimeters and all I have are UK branded drill bits. Since I didn't have an exact match bit and can't use a bit that's too big, I used an exact match bit but it was too small for the part and it drilled my hardware hole at an angle, causing the handle to appear crooked. Device number two was also returned. So now I've moved on to this device. I wanted to describe my disappointment with the other two lights so that you, the potential buyer of this light, know that this light only suffers from one of the previous issues. This light is 100% aluminum and built with a precision and strength that the other two didn't have. The aluminum surface is pleasant to the touch and all painted markings are clearly legible and colorable. Each metal hole is firmly fixed and won't move until you unscrew it to move it. There is no plastic to wear out or cause calibration issues. Although this device is made by a company with no name and is of much better quality, it is way better than the big blue device made by a company that sounds like 'Keg'. The only issue I feel this light suffers from is the imperial/metric system issue. Again I believe the hole guides are in millimeters as the drill bit that fitted the hole deviated very slightly and had a tiny amount of play. Not as much headroom as the second unit I bought, resulting in a crooked hardware setup, but headroom nonetheless. I guess I'll just unscrew one of the guides and take it to my local store and see if they sell metric bits. The instructions aren't overly informative, but you don't have to be a rocket surgeon to figure it out. . Holding the bracket fairly perpendicular to the cabinet, slide the metal bar to the desired depth at which you wish to mount the unit, then slide the vertical rails to the desired spacing and tighten. Place two vises on jig and drill. It is so easy. I highly recommend it to you as it's the best tool I've ever used, even if it's not the cheapest. It costs a few dollars extra.
