Let me start by saying that I have more craft experience than most and am always up for a challenge. These mounts are good value for money, but they do have their downsides. As previously mentioned, the recommended installation (also as shown in the attached installation guide) is not possible with 2x4 wall studs, so the holes must be aligned vertically. The baseplate is 2.1-2.2 inches wide instead of the advertised 2 inches. This is important because unless your floating shelf is that thick, a small portion of the bracket mounting plate will be visible above or below the floating shelf. disaster expected. I used some heavy construction screws to attach mine to the wall. I underestimated the difficulty of drilling 1/2" diameter and 6" deep holes in my shelves. I use walnut panels for my shelves and am now looking for someone with a standard drill who can do this for me. I have a bench drill but it's just not up to the task. If any of this scares you, it might be worth it. I love the look of floating shelves, but open iron pipe brackets would be a lot easier.
