The drive is recognized by Windows and Linux, but does NOT read any type of data carrier inserted. Rotates up and down while the disc is in the drive. Do yourself a favor and spend another $5 on something that might work. UPDATE: After a second search, almost every $14-$30 drive turned out to be the exact same cheap device with a rename and minor top case changes. Check out the underside of any of them and they are identical. About 7 out of 100 are defective. Check the reviews - YMMV
