Temperature Experiment

I wanted a cheap carafe to keep my tea hot and since I have a few Zojirushi items (kettle with hot water, 2-3 travel mugs with hot/cold water, rice cooker) I have I decided this one. . I also liked that it clearly says it's made in Japan, which is also stamped on the bottom of the carafe. It seemed to keep my tea comfortably hot for a decent amount of time, just like the travel mugs we have. There were several reviews on opposite sides of the spectrum, some saying their drinks stay hot, others saying they don't keep drinks hot at all. So I did an experiment. I brewed tea with a glass teapot. My Zojirushi hot water pot indicated that the temperature of the water in the pot was 208 degrees Fahrenheit. I poured hot water into the infuser and after 3 minutes of brewing it reached 191 degrees. After pouring into the carafe (I didn't heat the carafe with hot water) it was 171 degrees. I screwed on the lid and let it sit for 6 hours. The tea was 153 degrees which was hot enough for me and hot enough that my honey is still melting in my cup of milk. other decanters. I was happy with the timing (6 hours) and temperature of the tea. I only use my carafe for tea, but the carafe is a bit high and it doesn't look like you can make coffee directly in the cup. Decanter of a conventional coffee machine. You'll probably need to brew the coffee in a coffee maker carafe and then pour it into this Zojirushi carafe. The lid is screwed onto hard plastic and that doesn't bother me. There is another version of this with a fill button. It's not easy to wash it with soap because the hole in the top is very small, which probably makes it better retain heat. I don't mind because I only use it for tea, so I just rinse it out (like I do with my cast iron kettle) and don't use soap to clean the inside. You could probably stick a small bottle brush in to clean it if needed, but you can't stick your hand in to clean with a sponge. Overall I'm very happy with this carafe as I don't need anything out of the ordinary. and I didn't want to spend too much money on it.
